Technical Instructor, Instructional Delivery
The Training & Performance team is a part of ASP’s HR and Talent Development Organization. This newly centralized Training & Performance team supports the ASP business by fostering a culture of engagement and continuous learning & performance at the individual, team, and organizational levels by designing and deploying learning and development strategies which will enhance people, processes and performance and enable Assurant Specialty Property to achieve its business objectives and maintain its competitive advantage. The Training & Performance team focuses on providing diverse learning & development experiences at each stage of a person’s career at Assurant, offering world-class programs that accelerate talent development and organizational performance to support the achievement of ASP’s business strategy.
The Technical Instructor will report directly to the Manager, Instructional Delivery Performance and will serve as an integral member of the Assurant Specialty Property (ASP) Talent Development team.
The Technical Instructor is primarily responsible for delivering effective classroom training to ASP associates throughout the year . The instructor balances educational effectiveness with content expertise in order to create a classroom learning environment that simulates the work environment. In order to maintain this balance, the effective Instructor will allocate his/her time as follows:
Classroom and remote instruction 65%
Working on the floor, maintaining SME expertise 15%
Instructional preparation 20%
Demonstrate effective instructor skills so that learners retain content and transfer skills to the job. Serve as subject matter expert in the resolution of complex creative and technical problems and issues.
Conduct effective remote training session for up to 100 people using ASP remote technologies (e.g., Net Meeting, ATT Connect, Video Conference).
Conducts effective classroom sessions at assigned site, at other sites, and offsite at non-Assurant locations.
Implement a proven instructional model in the classroom.
Ability to work in and demonstrate the effective use of a variety of ASP-developed business applications (e.g., SmartFlow, Agilsource, Trackall 1.5) along with some vendor applications (e.g., MSP).
Demonstrate a preference for working with technical skills and material rather than soft skills.
Pursue an external technical certification program for instructors as directed by the Manager of Instructional Delivery.
Interface with the Technical Writing and Design function to ensure that the correct procedures are taught in the classroom.
Interface with the Instructional Design function to ensure that courses are delivered on a consistent basis as originally designed.
Learning Environment Effectiveness

Create a learning environment that replicates the job environment while motivating learners to acquire new skills.
Effectively collaborate with training coordinators to ensure that all materials are available and that the classroom is setup properly.
Work with the Manager, Instructional Delivery and other team members to experiment with new and innovative approaches to create an effective classroom environment.
Adjust the classroom environment, as needed, to accommodate for various learning needs.
Assist in the implementation and scoring of Level 1 and 2 evaluation instruments.
Effectively manage internal client relationships and work effectively across the business.
