At Assurant, we celebrate the differences that make us who we are, recognizing that a diverse, equitable, and inclusive Assurant helps us better understand and connect with our employees, clients, and customers.

Each year, we continue to find new ways to:

  • Build and empower diverse, winning teams
  • Embody our values of Common Decency, Common Sense, Uncommon Thinking and Uncommon Results
  • Enable our employees to truly live The Assurant Way in celebration of our diverse thoughts and experiences.

I’m extraordinarily proud of the work we've done to advance our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy this year. We made a difference through our efforts to connect with employees around the globe, and what we have accomplished helps to deepen our understanding of each other and strengthen Assurant as a great place to work.

Please join me in celebrating some of our signature efforts in 2022 and prepare for what’s ahead in the new year.

Reflecting on our 2022 DEI efforts and progress
Thanks to the efforts, input and perspective from our employees and leaders across the globe, some of our top highlights include:

  • Evolving our Courageous Conversations to Diverse Perspectives. These unique forums enabled Assurant employees to come together and share perspectives that create connection and understanding, making each community feel seen and heard.
  • Launching three Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): Women@Assurant, Veterans@Assurant, and Mosaic@Assurant and laid the foundation for the launch of Pride@Assurant in the year ahead.
  • Launching our inaugural DEI Mentorship Program with 11 mentors and 30 mentees.
  • Exceeding our Supplier Diversity Target by 80%, awarding $38 million to diverse-owned businesses through the program. This built on prior work to enhance our global Supplier Diversity & Inclusion program to further improve diverse representation in our supplier base.
  • Fostering community engagement activities for underrepresented communities through volunteerism and Foundation support (such as our Wounded Warrior Family Support vehicle donation)
  • Achieving 94% on our Diverse Slate & Interview Team requirement for Grades 13 and above U.S. open roles.

What’s ahead in 2023
While we made great progress this year, we are actively working to expand our program offerings and, more importantly, the impact of those offerings in the year ahead. We will continue to advance our efforts, focusing on our Workforce, Workplace, and Marketplace DEI strategy pillars and enhancing our programming and approaches globally to increase the inclusion of our employee base.

We will continue to execute our DEI Strategic roadmap and look to reinforce the following in 2023:

  • Continued evolution of our Diverse Perspectives program
  • Sustaining ERG momentum with the roll-out of Pride and Abilities ERGs
  • Expanding DEI accessibility practices through partnerships with internal and external organizations
  • Continuing to drive our programming and participation using our employee voices

Everyone has a role in these efforts and, through leading by example, we will continue to create forums for ongoing conversation that invite differences of thought and empower everyone to get involved.

Thank you to our employees for all you are doing to build a stronger Assurant as we bring our DEI commitment to life!
