Accounting Manager

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Manager!

The Accounting Manager is responsible for Accounts Receivable and Revenue, preparation of key reports used by Account Executives and the Sales team, and other complex and often cross-business unit accounting and finance matters. The role will be responsible for accurate revenue recognition and reporting, managing multiple projects at a time including month-end close matters of complex and/or urgent nature.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for revenue recognition, reporting and managing Accounts Receivable from invoice to collection for Hyla customer programs

  • Design and manage accounting and project setups with respect to systems for new customers and/or revenue programs and other processes across the HYLA businesses.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly close process journal entries, consolidations and trial balance uploads as needed to AIZ systems

  • Manage intercompany accounting within Hyla entities and with other AIZ subs and eliminations

  • Drive automation efforts for revenue processes, month-end close and Oracle implementation and associated testing

  • Assist with operational controls improvement and documentation

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and reporting package for executive management

  • Technical Accounting whitepaper documentation support including updating and maintaining revenue memo

  • Analyze intercompany discrepancies, research root cause, and implement processes and procedures to correct issues in intercompany activity. Coordinate with business partners, pricing, master data to ensure all changes are made as necessary

  • Transfer pricing calculation and documentation

  • Support Tax team with information needed for filing of tax returns

  • Support SOX compliance for revenue and accounts receivable

  • Support or run complex ad hoc projects at the request of the Controller

Basic Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

  • CPA designation required

  • Minimum of 5 years experience

  • 3+ years of supervisory or managerial experience

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP principles and internal control environments

  • Experience with Oracle or other large ERP

  • Strong experience with reporting and variance analysis

  • Strong attention to detail, much of the position’s work product is delivered to customers and must be free of errors

  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written

  • Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel (v-lookups, pivots, functions, macros)

  • Strong analytical skills in reviewing trend data and exception recognition

  • <5% Travel

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • 8+ years experience preferred

  • Proven track record for improving process efficiencies and solving problems

  • Project management experience leading small to mid-size projects

  • System implementation experience

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team

  • Results driven, team player, can work under tight deadlines and ability to communicate with all levels of financial and operational personnel

  • SOX compliance knowledge
