Accounting Project Manager

Successfully manage moderate to large accounting and enterprise initiatives in support of service delivery optimization and operational excellence in the Premium Accounting Services (PAS) organization. Partner with accounting directors and cross-functional team members globally to deliver billing and payment client implementations, enhancements and transformation/automation of accounting processes and controls.

Project Management 40%

  • Lead multiple functional and enterprise projects of moderate to large scale.
  • Ensure best practices are followed throughout project lifecycles.
  • Be accountable for delivering required deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Organize cross-functional teams, coordinate resource acquisition, and identify necessary skills.
  • Define responsibilities, assign tasks, and track completion.
  • Coordinate assignment dependencies within the team and across other projects.
  • Understand and comply with corporate standards and methodologies (e.g., accounting, IT, security).
  • Utilize project management tools and methodologies consistently.
  • Prepare comprehensive written documentation (project plans, risk plans, etc.).
  • Develop plans for completing project deliverables, including scheduling and coordination.
  • Facilitate team participation, conflict resolution, and consensus building.
  • Present thought-provoking questions to stimulate discussion.
  • Manage project risks with documented mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
  • Ensure alignment of project elements (plan, scope, schedule, budget) with goals.

Organization, Communication and Prioritization (30%)

  • Handle multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Prioritize tasks based on urgency and impact.
  • Issue Resolution and Influence.
  • Escalate issues to resolution, using influence and diplomacy.
  • Advocate for solutions that benefit the project and team.
  • Use various communication types (email, letter, presentation, report).
  • Adapt communication style for different media (formal, written, voice, etc.).
  • Accept direction and feedback while continuously improve based on input.
  • Foster an environment of clear communication across sites and functional areas.
  • Encourage open dialogue and transparency.
  • Operate from a base of honesty, integrity, and aligned principles.
  • Behave consistently with organizational values.
  • Provide appropriate management style for the project team.
  • Facilitate discussions that stimulate ideas and collaboration.
  • Ensure effective communication across project teams, especially stakeholders.
  • Regularly meet with Project Owners/Sponsors.
  • Participate as a team leader or enterprise project team member.
  • Demonstrate autonomy and adaptability under minimal supervision.
  • Communicate with peer groups and management in the global accounting organization.
  • Handle difficult messages professionally.

Identify and Implement Improvements 30%

  • Identify opportunities for transformation and automation within Premium Accounting Services.
  • Recommend and take action on system or process improvements.
  • Research and analyze options, making informed recommendations.
  • Define business solutions for low to moderately complex projects.
  • Consider cross-functional and organizational implications.
  • Remain flexible and creative in problem-solving.
  • Understand business goals and priorities.
  • Apply knowledge of company policies and industry best practices.
  • Comprehend interdependent processes (e.g., billing, audit, IT).

This position has no direct reports, but will be responsible for orchestrating the work of others to successfully deliver projects.

Required Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field or 4 years of process improvement in finance, accounting or operations environment.
  • Requires effective oral, written, and presentation skills to manage communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading cross functional teams and promoting collaboration and teamwork.
  • Experience utilizing project management tools and techniques.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Experience at identifying critical tasks and resources necessary to achieve desired objectives.

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • 4 years in a Finance, Accounting or Operations environment.
  • Deep understanding of Accounting and Finance terminology.
  • Experience working with business process outsourcing partners.
  • Experience with billing and payment systems.
  • Experience in operations transformation and automation a plus.
  • Ability to manage projects with medium to high complexity.
  • Managed projects of up to 6 months duration.
  • Managed project team of up to 10 associates.
  • Manage projects for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Certified Project Manager.
