Actuarial Analyst

Overview of Position

The Actuarial Analyst/Lead role supports Canada’s biggest ESC client, including various actuarial functions such as pricing, ratemaking, forecasting & experience analysis/reporting. The role contains significant client-facing time; through weekly calls and quarterly business reviews. A unique opportunity to lead the actuarial initiatives with significant exposure to senior leadership. Will have the support of a junior actuary. There may be some travel involved.

They provide advanced analysis to moderately complex, defined tasks & projects. This role recommends and implements techniques which support Assurant operations in achieving its goals related to revenue and profitability targets. The Actuarial Analyst demonstrates the ability to understand direction provided in project deliverables, time management, and development. This role is expected to also participate in the department’s exam and rotational programs, which provides the opportunity to gain experience in numerous areas of the Actuarial organization while also understanding all products included in Assurant’s product suite. The Actuarial Analyst reports to the Supervisor of Actuarial.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Owns the process of responding to all internal, external or ad hoc requests for business unit/product line supported with direct guidance from manager

  • Appropriately analyzes, adds updates, and summarizes existing memorandum templates

  • Locates and reconciles data from various source systems; ensures accuracy and recognizes adjustments needed for possible data anomalies

  • Gathers information from different internal departments and complete reports and analysis as directed; understands and develops process flows; incorporate feedback provided for reporting and communications

  • Identifies system and data inefficiencies; provide recommendations to resolve

  • Implements solutions to translate financial projections into business metrics; aware of area productivity, processes, & business profitability

  • Participates in cross-training and knowledge sharing within team/department to accomplish goals

  • Actively manages self-development. Takes actuarial exams in pursuit of professional designation

  • 10% Travel – potential for some travel for Client meetings/presentations

Responsibility for the work of others

  • Potentially assist a junior actuary as they work together on client deliverables

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field and a minimum of 4-6+ exams completed

  • Minimum of 4 years of overall experience

  • Must be pursuing actuarial designation or is already an Associate of the Actuarial Society (CAS/SOA/CIA/IFoA).

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive responsibilities and related experience in an actuarial role

  • Has advanced level of understanding actuarial concepts, insurance product and industry knowledge

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, PowerBI, SharePoint

  • Advanced to Expert proficiency to various data repository platforms (SAS/SQL/etc.)

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Proficiency with coding (SQL, PowerBI)

  • Exhibits advanced skills in completing moderate to complex, defined tasks & projects

  • Handles basic conflicts independently and seeks advice on more complicated matters

  • Establishes rapport with internal and external groups to stay abreast with ongoing activity that may need actuarial engagement

  • Demonstrates cordial, clear, and concise writing abilities through various forms of media related to technical and non-technical topics

Pay Range

$74,900.00 - $123,500.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience, and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
