API Platform Owner, GCC, India

The API Platform Owner role exists to provide overarching expertise and guidance for all things related to APEX API development, platform hosting, security integration, and infrastructure configuration for the Assurant API Management platforms.  These platforms current include, but are not limited to in terms of scope, Azure API Management (APIM) and Mulesoft Anypoint.  The platform owner works with developers, product designers, business users, infrastructure engineers, IT leadership, and other architects to understand, rationalize, and design solutions and standards centered on the current and future Assurant API management platforms. 

The API platform owner is ultimately accountable for the governance of Assurant’s API management platform deployment and usage.  This includes, but is not limited to, governance for onboarding APIs and developers, guidance on design and development of APIs, and proper configuration of infrastructure for effective hosting of API assets.  The platform owner will establish development best practices, process guidance, and promote creating reusable assets across the API ecosystem. 

In short, the API platform owner will provide the thought leadership to the organization for infrastructure platform design, application integration, process improvement, and ongoing cost/functionality optimization.                                  

This position will be in Remote at India location.  

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Aligning business requirements into solution designs for API and API management platform technologies (40%)
  • Strategic planning and lifecycle alignment for application and platform API development and management technologies (35%)
  • Stewardship of API and API management platform governance (25%)

What are the requirements needed for this position? 

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, CIS, MIS, etc.
  • 8 years of experience in business to technology solution alignment, design, and rationalization
  • 5 years development experience in a combination of .NET, Java, or Node.js
  • 4 years of related hardware/software and infrastructure system technology experience
  • 3 years API development and management experience
  • Azure API Management, preferred, and/or MuleSoft developer/architect certifications

What the skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Proven ability delivering value by using technology to effectively address business needs and solve problems.
  • Experience in application architecture, design, and development in Java and .NET
  • Deep and broad knowledge of API Management concepts and features
  • Deep and broad knowledge of web service development using SOAP/REST
  • Deep and broad knowledge of network infrastructure such as load balancers, firewalls, etc…
  • Broad knowledge of web protocols such as HTTP, HTML, CSS
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems 
  • Experience with cloud application design patterns
  • Ability to lead others in project delivery.
  • Ability to communicate with IT leadership on major issues.
  • Understanding of the Agile software development life cycle
  • Operational understanding of software and infrastructure support
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple issues and tasks while remaining responsive to immediate problems.
  • Experience in influencing others, managing conflict, and interacting well with individuals throughout the organizational hierarchy.
  • Understanding of various disciplines and technologies, such as web, directory services, directory synchronization, security, databases, networking, infrastructure, and application development is key.
