Business Compliance Liaison

This job is responsible for leading the compliance program within specified business units, providing guidance, direction, and strategy for compliance-related processes and procedures.  The BUCL will partner with the leadership team to ensure appropriate compliance risks are identified and controls are in place for business processes and initiatives.  The BUCL will oversee activities to ensure continued compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. This is a remote position.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of business strategic and tactical goals and objectives, aligning compliance activities, policies, controls, and compliance plan items for the targeted business unit

  • Engage with other Ethics & Compliance (E&C) functions to effectively provide oversight of (i) compliance implementations, (ii) remediation of compliance issues, and (iii) compliance change management

  • Identify compliance concerns and/or gaps for new product launches and implementations.

  • Work with the Market Conduct Exam management team to support market conduct or other regulatory examinations/compliant inquiries

  • Work closely with business attorney, Government Relations team, and other E&C leadership to keep a pulse of changing regulatory environments and future business shifts ensuring business and functional strategies are aligned

  • Assist E&C in the development of the compliance risk management framework for the targeted business unit, identifying risks, controls, and mitigations, tracking mitigation progress and effectiveness, reporting on compliance risk with the business, and Compliance leadership

  • Participate in business risk meetings including engaging with Risk Management, Internal Audit, and business representatives on critical compliance issues

  • Assist E&C with the development of risk-based compliance testing and monitoring plan

  • Proactively manage the escalation of Compliance Risks and Issues with both business and E&C function stakeholders

  • Foster a strong working relationship with business leaders, in-house legal staff, and external advisors.

  • Assist E&C with the communication and training of new compliance policies and/or compliance requirements

  • Engage with Internal Audit, Legal and E&C leadership to develop critical compliance mitigation and remediation strategies

  • Provide compliance advice to various business representatives on issues including, but not limited to, customer collateral, contract policy language, and compliance requirements implementations

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in a related discipline

  • 8 + years in a compliance/regulatory role

  • 4+ years of experience setting strategy and direction for Compliance process while providing direction and guidance to various levels of management

  • CCEP (Corporate Compliance and Ethics Professional) certification or other Compliance designation

  • Strong working knowledge of targeted business unit and laws and regulations that impact the business

  • Ability to gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments

  • Resolve complex analytical challenges and make recommendations based on analysis

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills to professionally address a wide and varied audience, including executive management, both internally and externally

  • Facilitate meetings, and ensure that all viewpoints, ideas, and problems are addressed

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?  

  • Insurance Industry experience such as Property and Casualty (is a plus)

How much should I expect to travel?

  • Travel – 10-25% Travel (if needed)
