Business Unit Compliance Liaison Director

The Business Unit Compliance Liaison Director is responsible for the leading the compliance program within Global Housing business units, providing guidance, direction & strategy for Compliance related processes and procedures. The Director will partner with our leadership team to ensure appropriate compliance controls are in place for business processes and initiatives. Additionally, the position will be responsible for the oversight on activities present and future to ensure continued compliance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed understanding of Global Housing business strategic and tactical goals and objectives, aligning compliance strategies activities, policies, controls, and Compliance Plan items for Global Housing business units.

  • Engage with Assurant’s Corporate and Regulatory Compliance functions to effectively provide oversight to Compliance implementations and change.

  • Issue spot Compliance concerns and/or gaps for new product and implementations.

  • Work with the Assurant’s Corporate Compliance team and Global Housing business units in the preparation of market conduct or other regulatory examinations and compliant inquiries.

  • Work closely with Global Housing Business attorneys, Government Relations team and other Compliance leadership to keep pulse of changing regulatory environment & future business direction ensuring business and functional strategies are aligned.

  • Assist Corporate, Regulatory Compliance and Compliance/Legal teams with the development of compliance risk management framework for Global Housing business units, identifying risks, controls, and mitigations, tracking mitigation progress and effectiveness, and reporting on Compliance Risk to Global Housing and Compliance leadership.

  • Represent Corporate and Regulatory Compliance including engagement with Risk Management, Internal Audit and Global Housing representatives on critical compliance issues.

  • Assist with the development of risk-based Global Housing Compliance Testing Plan.

  • Proactive management of escalation of Compliance Risks and Issues with both Global Housing and Compliance stakeholders.

  • Foster strong working relationships with Global Housing Leaders, in house Legal and Counsel and external advisors.

  • Assist Corporate and Regulatory Compliance with the communication and training of new compliance policies and/or compliance requirements.

  • Engage with Internal Audit, Legal (Business and Compliance) and Corporate and Regulatory Compliance Leadership to develop critical compliance mitigation strategies.

  • Provide Corporate and Regulatory Guidance to various Global Housing representatives on numerous issues such as but not limited to customer collateral, contract policy language and compliance requirements implementations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.).

  • Minimum of 8 plus years in a compliance/regulatory role, at least 4 years setting strategy and direction for Compliance processes and providing direction & guidance to various levels of management.

  • Strong working knowledge of Global Housing business units and laws and regulations that impact the business operations.

  • Ability to make analytical decisions.

  • Resolve complex analytical challenges, independently analyze information, and make recommendations based on analysis.

  • Solve complex problems and model the business, financial, reputational and compliance impact of proposed scenarios (independently and collectively).

  • Ability to gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments.

  • Facilitate meetings, ensure that all viewpoints, ideas, and problems are addressed.

  • Proven ability to multi-task as well as assess and change priorities.

  • Work well individually, and in teams, share information support colleagues and encourage participation.

  • Organize, prioritize, manage, and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments with frequently changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills to professionally address a wide and varied audience, including executive management, both internally and externally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CCEP (Corporate Compliance and Ethics Professional) certification or other Compliance designation or equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training.

  • Insurance industry experience such as, Property and Casualty or Service Warranty Business experience.
