This job is responsible for partnering with Assurant’s VP of Regulatory Affairs for Enterprise & Global in analyzing, advising, and reporting on pertinent regulations related to a variety of enterprise-wide regulatory and corporate issues impacting Assurant and its subsidiaries. This position offers the opportunity for the right hire to take ownership and accountability for projects with developed skills/experience.  This role is remote.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Play a lead role in ensuring that Assurant’s insurance holding group is compliant with the Insurance Holding Company Act, including staying abreast of regulatory developments, and coordinating, drafting, filing key Holding Company Act filings (e.g., Forms B and C - Annual Registration and Changes thereto, Form D Prior Notice of Transaction, Form F  - Enterprise Risk Report, and the Corporate Governance Annual Disclosure)

  • Lead the coordination, drafting, and management of intracompany agreements across the enterprise, as well as related regulatory notifications or approval filings, as needed

  • Under the direct supervision of the VP of Global Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Governance, monitor and analyze regulatory developments to determine the impact of enterprise/corporate related state and federal statutes, and regulations on Assurant regulated entities and/or business practices and procedures. Examples of matters reviewed include, but are not limited to, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, reinsurance, ESG, disaster recovery/business continuity, and AML/OFAC)

  • Provide legal advice on regulatory and corporate governance matters, including responding to regulatory inquiries and drafting regulatory policies, procedures, or processes to guide business and legal needs

  • Assists with corporate governance matters related to Assurant’s legal entities globally, including providing legal advice

  • Support M&A projects, including participating in the due diligence and integration phases of a transaction, as well as requests related to financial and market conduct examinations, data requests, and regulatory investigations

  • Support in administrative matters, such as engagement and payments to external law firms

What are the requirements needed for this position? 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) required

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of legal experience, in a law firm or corporate law department, ideally handling legislative and/or regulatory matters in insurance, mortgage servicing, or other highly regulated industries

  • Current license to practice law in a US jurisdiction

  • Clear and effective written and oral communication skills

  • Proficient in preparing PowerPoint presentations and using Excel for charts, lists, and other project management purposes

  • Ability to evaluate complex legal and regulatory issues and recommend appropriate and defendable courses of action

  • Ability to handle a diverse set of issues and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner

  • Highly autonomous and self-motivated work ethic; demonstrating sound judgment, initiative, and an ability to manage multiple priorities with a sense of urgency.

  • Demonstrate an ability to handle matters of a sensitive and confidential nature, and the capacity to maintain composure while working under pressure

  • Must demonstrate strong executive presence, interpersonal, and highly developed writing and speaking skills

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build a trusting work environment

Pay Range

$97,100.00 - $161,900.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience, and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
