Director, Compliance Governance and Administration

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Compliance Governance and Administration!

The role will provide leadership, innovation, governance and management necessary to coordinate areas of functional risk across multiple stakeholders and lines of business, as well as aggregate risks, integrate for various levels of reporting and coordinate and/or manage initiatives and projects related to compliance governance.

The purpose of this position is to provide subject matter expertise and documentation for development and implementation of compliance governance requirements. Responsibilities require leadership and project management experience to support effective standards for testing, risk assessment and development of applicable policies, standards and guidelines.

Primary Job Responsibilities

COMPLIANCE GOVERNANCE OPERATIONS 60%:

  • Support the development and maintenance of the Compliance Program and framework elements.

  • Develop and execute risk register reporting.

  • Manage issues, incidents and Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) monitoring and reporting for domestic operations.

  • Manage oversight for issues, incidents and CAPs for domestic and offshore vendors.

  • Administer Compliance Program committees as applicable.

  • Aggregate, assess and report operational risk exposures to various audiences.

  • Integrate actual and proposed compliance business case analysis with enterprise initiatives.

  • Manage the Compliance Business Review (CBR) process to identify and execute compliance efficiencies through innovation and automation.

  • Support compliance assessments.

  • Monitor adherence or changes to the audit plans as approved by VP Business Unit Compliance.

  • Coordinate applicable Governance, Risk Compliance (GRC) system(s) activities to ensure adequate compliance framework, oversight and reporting.

  • Manage administrative compliance governance activities to include, but not limited to, project management, goal setting/tracking, capacity model development and maintenance, report development and maintenance, creation and management of compliance presentations, organizational chart management and compliance operations training development and assessments.

LEADERSHIP AND STRATEGY 40%:

  • Manage and develop direct and indirect reports to serve as trusted advisors to foster a culture of compliance and facilitate change management for compliance activities.

  • Manage Employee engagement activities.

  • Develop and direct staff to ensure effective job performance, create succession planning, identify development needs and create career progression.

  • Direct workflow to maintain adequate staffing to execute on compliance program deliverables.

  • Communicate effectively to build rapport with all stakeholders to create an environment of credibility and trust.

  • Maximize the compliance function through strong leadership and development of a team of compliance professionals.

  • Practice continuous improvement to innovate and achieve efficiencies

  • Form strategic partnerships with all relevant stakeholders to develop a governance model that will lead to efficiencies and ensure technology initiatives are adequate and inclusive of compliance needs.

  • Foster a culture of compliance within the team and across the organization. 

Responsibility for work of others

  • Position will have 7 direct reports and 2 indirect reports.

Basic Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • 5 years of mortgage servicing and/or insurance industry business experience.

  • 5 years of project management experience.

  • 5 years of federal and/or state regulator and/or market conduct exam experience.

  • 4 years of MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio and complex spreadsheets in Excel.

  • 3 years recent working knowledge in regulatory compliance governing the mortgage and insurance industries.

  • 3 years of compliance auditing.

  • 3 years risk management skills.

  • 25% Travel

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration, Finance or related field or equivalent work experience required.

  • Strong operational management, leadership and organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to influence and negotiate solutions outside

  • of direct reporting lines.

  • Knowledge of Query applications, i.e., Access, Cognos, SQL, etc.

  • Ability to work independently; ability to multi-task and prioritize work within required deadlines.

  • Analyze problems and make decisions with ability to perform effectively when changes in priorities, direction and resources occur.

  • Strong risk management skills.

  • Requires strong ability to analyze process/project operations and suggest improvements that will enhance compliance processes.

  • Knowledge of Information Technology and Data Management processes, including GRC functions.

  • Ability to work well across organizational and geographical boundaries.

  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.

  • Knowledge of concepts, practices, principles and procedures for strategic planning and reporting.

  • Strong experience base in interpersonal and communication skills horizontally and vertically within the organization to effectively influence without direct authority.

  • Strong analytical and objective critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of compliance risk assessments, systems and controls.

  • Ability to work successfully in complex and emerging business and project areas with areas of gray.

  • Certified Compliance Ethics Professional (CCEP).

  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM).

  • Paralegal designation.
