Exposure Management Analyst

Overview of Position

The Exposure Management Analyst will be responsible for providing natural catastrophe risk analysis and reporting to assist with reinsurance placements and to inform senior management of current and potential impacts on Assurant’s exposure due to natural perils. The successful candidate will work closely with the Exposure Management, Risk Management, Actuarial, Reinsurance brokers, and other Business Unit stakeholders on various catastrophe modeling projects to support the growth of our property lines of business, build out our modeling processes, and develop catastrophe analytic capabilities. This is a remote position.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Critically analyze and validate exposure data for modeling natural catastrophes to ensure accuracy and high-quality results

  • Prepare presentations and reports to summarize exposure and potential loss results for Assurant’s property lines of business

  • Execute modeling process in Verisk (AIR)/RMS/Impact Forecasting including creating import files, running analyses, creating exhibits, and providing written commentary to explain results

  • Perform model change management by running analyses, investigating loss results, and explaining loss changes

  • Assess exposure concentrations arising from portfolio level accumulations using GIS software

  • Maintain and develop education on Verisk (AIR), RMS, and Impact Forecasting modeling tools

  • Assist with a variety of analytical projects including claims analyses, evaluating new products, process improvement, and investigating new functionality in model software

  • Identify ways to make existing processes more efficient and assist with their implementation

  • Support catastrophe event response reporting

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Earth Sciences, or other quantitative fields

  • 1+ years of catastrophe modeling experience

  • Exceptional problem solver

  • Excellent ability to organize and pay attention to detail

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with SQL commands and can write original SQL scripts to interrogate data and improve upon existing queries to make them more efficient

  • Knowledge of at least one catastrophe model vendor platform (RMS, Verisk (AIR), Impact Forecasting), including how to query backend tables

  • Proficient with MS Office suite including PowerPoint and the ability to build exhibits in Excel

  • Familiar with insurance and reinsurance concepts

  • Strong understanding of catastrophe modeling inputs and how they impact results

  • Detailed knowledge of catastrophe modeling output metrics and how to interpret them

  • Proactive and responsive communicator

  • Ability to perform well in a remote working environment

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • GIS experience is a plus

  • Proficiency with Power BI is also desired
