Financial Analyst

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Analyst!

The position will be responsible for analyzing, preparing and providing insightful explanations with regards to quarter-end earnings, regulatory filings with states and assisting with internal and external Audits and the deliverables.  This role will support external reporting and accounting for our Global Lifestyle business including our extended warranty business segments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a concise variance analysis for client financials at the segment and business unit level

  • Prepare and develop reports on a daily, monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc basis

  • Support Lifestyle segment, including reviewing the quarterly earnings release and segment analytics package

  • Manage the Lifestyle segment by identifying and explaining trends and variance drivers, key performance indicators, and risks and opportunities

  • Responsibilities involve working closely with the Accounting group, Business finance teams and Actuary to enhance processes and reporting, recommend and implement procedures to resolve data quality issues and ensure consistency between multiple areas and reporting systems

  • Solid knowledge of financial statement consolidations, internal controls (i.e. Sox Controls) and reviews, financial standards, audits, US GAAP and STAT reconciliation and financial variance analysis

  • Assist with Quarterly and Annual internal and external audit along with Consolidated Audited Financials

  • Prepare Regulatory State reporting and assist Compliance department with various state financial requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in finance/accounting; must include income statement analysis

  • Advanced problem-solving skills

  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes and techniques to more complex problems and issues

  • Apply advanced and sophisticated analytical techniques

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required – Finance or Accounting

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in finance/accounting; must include income statement analysis

  • Preferred:  Masters in Finance/Accounting, MBA or CPA

Other requirements

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems

  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections using an advanced level of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

  • Requires advanced ability to build financial reports, quickly manipulate data and conduct financial analysis under tight timelines

  • Thorough understanding of business issues and concepts related to insurance, financial services or mobile industry

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal teams, at multiple levels, settings, and time zones

  • Work requires strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills are required to work with internal and external clients

  • A team player that can work in a complex and fast-paced environment

  • Critical and innovative thinking

  • Will have to work extended hours and weekends.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficient in understanding foreign exchange changes and impact on the financial statement lines

  • Insurance experience

  • Mobile and/or Auto industry experience

  • Experience identifying, evaluating and resolving financial, accounting and data quality discrepancies

  • Ability to utilize dynamic spreadsheet / database design in providing comprehensive decision support to executive management
