Global Risk Management Program Director

Overview of Position

The Assurant Global Risk Management team is seeking a Global Risk Management Program Director. Your primary responsibilities include is setting the direction for and project managing the strategic risk management programs globally. Responsible for building project and resource plans, managing the implementations of those plans, mitigating risks and communicating updates to key stakeholders.  Leveraging key best practices to optimize tools, technologies and processes and achieve higher levels of maturity. 

You will play a critical role in helping to ensure that the company’s risk-taking entities are enabled through the GRM programs to be aware of and manage the risks inherent in their activities and decisions, the impact of their actions on the company at an enterprise level, and opportunities to reduce, mitigate and monitor strategic, operational and financial risks. This is a remote position.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

  • Directs large complex and global programs successfully while managing business expectations

  • Sets strategic direction for the initiative that ensures successful leadership and delivery of projects in the programs to meet business objectives

  • Holds self and the program team accountable for delivering results against set scope, quality, time, cost, and value realization targets

  • Partners with Senior Business Leadership and IT Leadership to ensure the program has the proper resources

  • Leads the program team whose members are matrixed to functional and business teams across the organization

  • Oversees the resource demand planning for the program

  • Leads strategic roadmap planning for the program so that appropriate funding and resources can be acquired

  • Ensures that the program team applies agreed upon change management framework and discipline

  • Monitors and provides input to continuously improve an effective and efficient governance process

  • Provides tactical and strategic plans that balance business need, PMO and industry direction, and cost/benefit with corporate direction

  • Develops best practices for program reporting internally and to our business partners

  • Assists in managing the program budget and identifies opportunities to adjust to stay within plan.  Works with Finance to meet the requirements for planning, forecasting and reporting

  • Manages the program annual planning process with the business and with Finance

  • Ensures that all programs include a cost benefit analysis

  • Works with program leadership and finance to establish direction for metrics/measures and associated reporting to executive management

  • Drives quantification and monitoring of value realization targets

  • Maintains positive relationships with partners and business unit customers both within and across organizations to ensure effective delivery of all programs

  • Provides ideas and input to establish direction for overall standards, procedures and other relevant project, program and portfolio management documentation

  • Provides subject matter expertise and consulting to internal and external customers to help them achieve business objectives

  • Shares expertise in Program and Project Management, and is able to coach and mentor team members to help them achieve individual expectations and deliverables

  • Provides complex project leadership between BU management, Management Committee (MCOM) executives, technology groups, legal and compliance, corporate communications, and all external parties including managed service providers, governmental bodies, and regulators.

  • Participates on business boards as needed or outreach to customers

  • Communicates and exemplifies corporate objectives

  • Collaborate effectively with management and teams at all levels to accomplish goals

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree (Prefer in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related business field)

  • PMP Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)

  • Agile Certifications are ideal

  • Minimum of 10 years of project management or leadership experience in technology or business operations

  • Experience in Risk Management is a plus, particularly knowledge of Operational Resiliency, Operational Risk, or control-related background within the Banking or financial services industries

  • Demonstrates ability to interact with and manage functional experts including internal service delivery teams, client project teams, external service provider project teams, and 3rd party subcontractors in a global and/or virtual setting   

  • Demonstrates proficiency with project risk management identification planning and remediation, and issue identification and management   

  • Demonstrates proficiency in managing projects with broad and complex stakeholder requirements   

  • Demonstrates proficiency to drive the execution, monitoring, and control of project plans to successful on-time, on-budget, high-quality completion   

  • Experience with managing complex technology platforms and/or experience with large transformational initiatives with complex organizational change

  • Experience with Agile methodology

  • Ability to communicate clearly and interact effectively at all levels of the organization, and to influence as warranted and appropriate

  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining superior results

  • Work cross-functionally, individually, and lead work among a team

  • Execution oriented and a self-motivator

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and delivery capabilities

  • Experience leading and managing multiple complex projects or transformation programs

  • Strong facilitation and virtual team management skills, including with vendors and clients

  • Ability to ask the “right” questions without having extensive knowledge in a particular business area

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Risk Management Professional Certifications (ISACA or COSO knowledge are a plus)

  • Experience with Service Now’s GRC capabilities, Process Mapping, Fusion, Power BI & Tableau is ideal.

  • Knowledge of SOX, SOC 1&2, ITGC, PCI, ISO 27001 / 22301 is desired
