Job Purpose

Reporting to Director, International Communications, the Internal Communications Manager plays an integral role in scoping, creating and executing internal communication plans that support the business/functional and enterprise priorities to create awareness of strategic direction and alignment amongst employees.

This role is the communication advisor and lead for assigned projects with a focus on using communication to drive outcomes and alignment. This person scopes work and facilitates major enterprise, regional, business-line or department-wide communication efforts working with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Advises and aligns senior leaders on communication approaches.
  • Creates highly-integrated, audience and outcome-based internal communication strategies leveraging company channels including the intranet, Yammer, Teams, town halls, podcasts, email and face-to-face.
  • Defines proactive communication objectives for each program.
  • Drives the delivery of enterprise, business line, regional and department-wide campaigns and communications to influence employee engagement and increase understanding of Assurant’s priorities, values and purpose.
  • Measures effectiveness and progress toward achieving communication objectives and uses metrics as a key tool to demonstrate the performance of each internal channel. Provides feedback to leaders to highlight results and drive leader engagement.
  • Consistently demonstrates sound judgment, particularly in sensitive situations and navigates and plans for information that can be uncertain or nuanced.
  • Develops feedback channels and solicits stakeholder opinions; anticipates needs and concerns; acts on them appropriately.
  • Supports major change communication efforts that are related to equipping employees to live the culture and work in new ways.
  • Uses the communication support model to guide recommendations for communication planning and development.
  • Effectively communicates, coordinates and collaborates across Assurant to leverage knowledge, expertise and perspective to deliver timely and relevant communications.
  • Functional:
  • Develops messaging and plans that drive alignment within and across multi-year, transformational projects that span departments and drive change
  • International:
  • Is a point of contact and advocate for International locations to support their priorities while maintaining alignment to enterprise messaging.
  • Strengthens our team as a cohesive, innovative and effective global community.
  • Works closely with the enterprise communications team to ensure International is represented and participates in enterprise campaigns.

Requirements

Functional:

  • Minimum Education:  Bachelor's degree, preferably in communication.
  • Minimum Experience:  7+ years of corporate employee/functional communications. 
  • Experience in insurance/financial services industry desired.
  • English language

International:

  • Proven internal communication experience
  • Undergraduate degree preferably in English, Creative Writing or Journalism
  • Strong client relationship skills and experience of working with C-suite executives
  • Strong project management and delivery experience

  • Provides sound advice and counsel to senior leaders
  • Works well under time constraints
  • Can handle multiple tasks with changing priorities, communicating changes in scope and schedule to all stakeholders

  • Maintains confidentiality
