As the Product Development Manager, you will work under leadership direction and according to established guidelines. You will utilize strategic analysis of market trends and business opportunities to develop and implement new personal lines property insurance products, as well as maintain current personal lines property insurance products, that lead to growth and profits consistent with Assurant’s future strategic plan.

Summary of opportunity:

  • Complete proactive analysis of assigned states/responsibilities to ensure the integrity of existing products by serving as a team member on channel-driven product enhancement projects.

  • Research business ideas and market opportunities or trends in the personal lines property insurance market that lead to new product ideas.  Develop a comprehensive analysis of the financial potential of new product ideas.

  • Utilize knowledge of rate making and product costs (direct and indirect) in determining future actions at a state level and rate-making exercises. 

  • Research, select and define and develop new product features, and market positioning based upon customer need and competitive environment. 

  • Develop quality standards, administration, policy language, and pricing for new products.

  • Develop and present business plans and justification for new business opportunities/new products with potential financial impacts

Additional responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct internal resources and external vendors for effective implementation of new products.

  • Review analyst output or complete testing of new products and existing products enhancements to ensure the product maintains positioning and profitability.

  • Develop relationships with outside companies for potential strategic alliances and/or vendor administrators.

  • Keep up on the latest industry and consumer trends by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, Internet research, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies.

  • Help ensure implementation/testing of new and existing products through internal training and selling of new product ideas to salesforce and client contact teams.  Assist the client teams by attending client presentations as a new product expert when necessary.

  • Present new thought direction and expertise to channels and client teams by attending brainstorming sessions for marketing, product enhancements, or new product ideas.

  • Lead geographic-level reporting and analysis.  Review or prepare maps, visual summaries, heat charts, exposure analysis, and other similar reports and analyses to understand product exposures and risk management at a granular geographic level.

  • May lead a team of 1-5 analysts in the future.

Required Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in interpreting P&C forms, product development, and analytics.

  • 2 years of experience managing teams.

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics/data, engineering, or similar subjects. 

  • P & C Insurance Institute Designation i.e.. AINS, CPCU, ARM, etc. or license.

Desired experience, skills, and knowledge :

  • Master’s degree in similar fields a plus. 

  • Knowledge of multiple aspects of business (finance, marketing, operations, HR, technology, legal, etc.). Requires an understanding of the Property Casualty Insurance Industry.

  • Previous experience with project management of large projects.

  • Advanced Excel formula knowledge. Be able to provide detailed analysis with interactive reports.

  • Strong communication skills, including written and verbal.  Ability to create executive summaries.

  • Strong decision-making ability.

  • Strong leadership skills focused on providing coaching and feedback, development of the team, and making sure performance is being achieved.

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization, communicating and influencing effectively across different levels.
