The Proofreader reviews marketing and nonmarketing content relating to product descriptions, disclosures, instructions, policies and procedures for accuracy and completeness. This individual investigates and studies source materials and may compose content of a technical or product-related nature. Additionally, the Proofreader reviews all reprints for up-to-date information. The role requires this individual to resolve many questions and problems and refers more difficult items to higher levels.

This Proofreader must be able to review content for clarity and accuracy, addressing structure, punctuation, grammar, syntax, and typographical errors. This role requires a sharp eye for detail and the ability to work well under pressure.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Proofreading — 85%

  • Proofreads and fact checks marketing materials for spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, AP Style, and adherence to compliance guidelines.

  • Responsible for editing content to reflect changes on request and reviews.

Subject Matter Expert — 10%

  • Resolves questions and problems relating to content, grammar, punctuation, branding, style, tone, and voice.

  • Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of the products and their marketing contexts.

Collaboration — 5%

  • Works cooperatively with all areas of Integrated Marketing Solutions from concept to completion to ensure effective and on-time delivery of quality creative services.

  • Responsible for knowing the status of each project and managing daily calendar to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.

Basic Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in a related subject, such as English, publishing, advertising, communication, or journalism 

  • Three to four years of related experience in proofreading      

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written English, including good spelling and grammar

  • Meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail 

  • Excellent proofreading skills

  • Expert knowledge of AP Style

  • Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines

  • Collaborator who works well in team environment

  • Experience working in a corporate environment

  • Good concentration to focus on content that may be lengthy or highly technical

  • Sound judgement in applying client (internal and/or external) style guide

  • Ensure brand tone, voice and style guides are maintained

  • Double check that names, places, and organizations are spelled properly, and that facts, dates and statistics are accurate

  • Proofread and fact check marketing materials for spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, AP Style, and adherence to compliance guidelines

  • Resolve questions and problems relating to copy, grammar, punctuation, branding, style, tone, and voice

  • Possess extensive knowledge of company products and services

  • Compose content of a technical or product-related nature

  • Raise queries with the Copywriter/Copy Editor and refer more difficult items to higher levels within the reporting structure

  • Partner with clients throughout the life of the project to incorporate changes, input proof comments and ensure copy is up-to-date and accurate

  • Ensure that the company is not at risk for critical work such as RFPs, QBRs, terms and conditions

  • Review nonmarketing material (e.g., RFPs, sales material, legal and compliance documents)

  • Possess excellent project management, time management and communications skills in a deadline-drive environment

  • Negotiate deadlines with clients
