Release Train Engineer

The Release Train Engineer’s (RTE) focus is to drive the Agile change and scalability at Assurant.  The RTE will be supporting an Agile Release Train (ART) by steering it to success and navigating the complexity of delivering solutions consistently in large, cross-functional Agile teams.   

The RTE’s delivers value by guiding program level processes, execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.  The RTE ensures continuity between teams and helps optimize the flow of value through the ART by using various tools and other information radiators to help keep the team focused on what really needs their attention and to promote transparency.


  • Responsible for facilitating Agile at scale ceremonies, processes and artifacts and enterprise visibility on spend to value.
  • Enables the creation of the key funding model artifacts of portfolio and product roadmaps, Lean Business Cases (LBCs) and team-level visibility dashboards and views.
  • Facilitate PI planning readiness by fostering a continuous exploration process which drives the vision, roadmap, and backlogs through Pre- and Post-PI planning meetings.
  • Enables the intake of work into the ART by gaining alignment on tools and process and developing demand and capacity models to assist leadership in making tradeoffs between competing priorities.
  • Facilitates enterprise transformation goals at the program and portfolio level (Agile metrics, Funding Model, intake, road mapping, etc.)


  • Facilitates and track program-level execution and Program Increments (PI) feature delivery, escalate and remove impediments and mitigate risks with teams.
  • Ensure Strategy and execution alignment by working with IT Leaders, Product Owners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Enables Agile cadence and drive the ART ceremonies such as PI Planning, ART Sync, Product Owner Sync, Scrum of Scrums, Inspect and Adapt Workshop, System Demos, Innovation and Planning events.
  • Coordinate the value delivery of major features to customers where multiple teams, release trains, or solution groups are involved in development.
  • Facilitates change to the quarterly plan and the impacts of those changes.
  • Enables program feature grooming and manage program-level product backlog.
  • Facilitate program-level dependencies with other Release Trains and Shared Services.
  • Enables and track ART-level metrics and score card while course correcting with the teams when needed.
  • Provide ART Maturity Assessments as needed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Continuously improving quality, customer satisfaction, and health of our partner relationships.
  • Drives program-level continual improvement and consistency across Agile Release Train via retrospectives and Scrum-of-Scrums forums.
  • Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience as Release Train Engineer
  • Experience working in an Agile organization using Scrum, XP, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Experience in Agile Budgeting, Agile Metrics and Lean Portfolio Management
  • Demonstrated Release Train Engineer experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation. Experience coordinating multiple teams in a technology environment.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for the purpose of providing and explaining technical, product/service, solution related information to clients, vendors, senior management and staff.
  • Ability to easily build new relationships and proactively establish a variety of contacts across the organization.
  • Extensive experience working with Azure DevOps
  • Experience with virtual collaborations tools (Mural, Miro, Teams, etc.)
  • Client-oriented mindset
  • Ability to assess problems and solve them with a sense of urgency
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to coach and motivate a team to work together in the most efficient manner
  • Ability to effectively analyze data and apply solutions
  • High level of comfort with the role of a change agent within an organization
  • Superb communication skills, with ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise fashion to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification or equivalent


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • SAFe Program Consultant (SPC4 or higher) certification or equivalent
  • SAFe Certified Release Train Engineer certification or equivalent
  • Any other relevant Agile training
