Senior Accountant

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Accountant!

The position is primarily responsible for the Mobile Services Business Unit’s overall accounting practices, being responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective and efficient work flow of accounting transactions in compliance with GAAP Corporate financial policies. 

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the financial transactions

  • Monitor the day to day general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable activities

  • Accounts Receivable reconciliations

  • Inventory and Labor Capitalization entries, reconciliations and analysis

  • Assist with gain share calculations

  • Assist with Commissions Payable reconciliation of general ledger to profit share statement

  • Assist with Ecommerce transaction reconciliations

  • Cross train other staff duties (Acct I & II)

  • Perform monthly, quarterly and year end close

  • Month end GLIM entries as assigned

  • Maintain complete and accurate balance sheet reconciliations including BlackLines

  • Enforce the financial controls maintained in the department

  • Maintain and update internal Sarbanes-Oxley documentation for financial transactions and support internal audits of related controls

  • Safeguard the assets of the company

  • Other projects as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • EDUCATION:  Minimum Bachelor of Science in Accounting 

  • EXPERIENCE:   Minimum 4 years of experience in Accounting

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Knowledge of US GAAP, revenue recognition principles and ability to apply

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team

  • Organizational skills, including attention to detail, problem solving and follow through

  • Ability to lead and work as member of a team

  • Advanced Excel, Power Point and Word.

  • Critical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills

  • Ability to multi-task, results driven, team player, can work under tight deadlines and ability to communicate with all levels of financial and operational personnel.

  • Financial system expertise, encompassing spreadsheet, queries, large volume data manipulation and reconciliation, and month-end accounting close process.

  • Experience in relational databases such as Access or Cognos.

  • Experience in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or Great Plains.

  • Experience working with multiple financial systems to obtain data to analyze the business.

  • Analytical skills

  • Requires oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate among peers as well as upper management

  • CPA is a plus

  • SOX compliance knowledge

  • Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing environment.
