Overview of Position  

We’re looking for an Underwriting Lead who is passionate about efficient and accurate commercial insurance underwriting, and great at collaborating internally and externally to be part of our core startup team. We need someone who can apply their knowledge of risk and coverage to serve our customers, and values team members who view what they do as a craft rather than a job.

You will work closely with management to develop and enhance our private flood products, working alongside actuarial and reinsurance team to deliver data and metrics associated with a quickly expanding book of business. You will provide training and mentoring for product underwriters, developing material that can be used to propel us to the next level

You will also assist in prospecting new agencies and strengthen relationship with existing distribution partners.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?  

  • Assists with responsible for profitable growth of private flood business, working with our team of underwriters to evaluate and price flood policies within an accepted company risk framework.
  • Work closely with management to develop and enhance our private flood products, working alongside actuarial and reinsurance team to deliver data and metrics associated with a quickly expanding book of business.
  • Provide training and mentoring for product underwriters, developing material that can be used to propel us to the next level
  • Assist in prospecting new agencies and strengthen relationships with existing distribution partners.

 
What are the requirements needed for this position?  

  • 5 years of experience as a commercial lines underwriter or broker for carrier or MGA/MGU or experience with catastrophe modeling and delivering account and portfolio level results to senior leadership
  • Strong Communication and PowerPoint skills
  • Knowledgeable in all the duties of the Underwriter position, or similar positions level of education required in order for someone to perform this job)
  • Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced growing environment, with an emphasis on initiative, critical thinking and accountability

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?  

  • At least 6+ years of experience as a commercial underwriter
  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Risk Management or Mathematics.
  • CPCU, ARM, AU or ARe designations
  • 4 years’ experience of E&S Property Underwriting, Primary or Excess Flood Underwriting experience for carrier or Managing General Agent/Managing General Underwriter
  • 2 years of National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or other property and casualty insurance experience is preferred
  • Multi-Family Housing and/or condominium association underwriting experience
