This role will provide substantial opportunity for both vision and execution as Assurant develops leaders at all levels for the future.You will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of global Leadership Development for Assurant. Working closely with Assurant’s HR Business Partner community, the Organizational Development & Change Management COE, and business leaders, you will develop and champion a culture of development. You will “think beyond programs” and design, construct and facilitate the 70-20-10 Model for Learning & Development.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with excellent business acumen, who is both creative and has high attention to detail. The role requires experience working with senior leaders, and a proven track record of building progressive global development experiences. The individual will lead a small team of direct / indirect team members, reporting directly to the VP, Global Learning & Development, an Assurant HR Center of Excellence.
What You Will Do
Strategic Planning and Evaluation
Work with the VP of L&D to evaluate current capabilities and contribute to the department’s overall strategic plan.
Remain current on leadership and learning trends. Proactively pursue cost-effective, innovative options for Assurant.
Ensure integration of leadership development with talent and performance management practices and in alignment with Enterprise business strategy and process.
Oversight of Development Initiatives
Consult with senior business and HR leaders to understand business objectives, create development solutions to accelerate those objectives, provide oversight on execution, and ensure results are achieved through metrics and measurement.
Create core and high potential development programs at all leader levels internally or in conjunction with external vendors, using a blended learning approach. Development and implement holistic measurement strategy. Serve as program manager.
Facilitate select leadership development training, particularly for more senior levels.
Lead ideation and creation of non-training related development tools such as building a feedback and coaching culture, ensuring tools for developing on the job, and building mentoring capabilities.
Manage the enterprise Executive Coaching needs using external coaches.
Design development initiatives with understanding of various country by country nuances, cultures, and languages
Advance the intended culture with each successful solution implementation.
Provide feedback to team members with the goal of improving engagement, growth and performance amongst the Learning and Development team.
Relationship Management and Consulting
Build relationships with HR and business leaders to ensure understanding of Business Unit and Enterprise priorities, strategic initiatives, opportunities and challenges.
Foster relationships with key external vendors to ensure that Assurant remains current and relevant in the areas of learning design, technology, and metrics.
Building relationships with local L&D teams to ensure alignment with leadership development practices across the globe.
Quick study in goals and direction of the business.
Utilize consulting approach to identify root cause of performance issues, identify issues that are not clearly articulated, and consult to develop appropriate solution.
Learning Metrics and Measures
Work with stakeholders to understand desired business outcomes and build a plan into each learning project for evaluating the successful achievement.
Work with internal partners to obtain and report on learning-related data.
Provide both data and insight into the leadership development portion of the Global Learning & Development Scorecard.
Leadership and Development of the Team
Attract, hire, and develop top L&D talent. Ensure the ongoing development and engagement of the team, resulting in continuous improvement of processes, work products, and productivity.
What You Will Bring
Executive experience working with senior leaders, and a proven track record of building progressive global learning experiences in Fortune 500 or larger enterprises.
5+ years of experience creating, facilitating and running leadership developmental programs with forward focused training techniques and adult learning processes.
Bachelor’s degree in HR or related discipline. Masters or MBA a plus.
Prior experience as an HR Business Partner, OD Practitioner or other areas within Talent Management a plus.
Experience with DiSC, Hogan, Lominger or other 360 Feedback solution desired.
Experience managing L&D teams that collaborate through cross functional teams to accomplish established goals.
Mindset of adopting ideas and best practices from inside and outside the company.
Fluency and understanding of sound coaching practices.
Excellent communication skills, executive presence, and influence in a complex, ever-changing environment.
Strong planning and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
