Global Employee and Leadership Development Director

Our team is seeking a Global Employee and Leadership Development Director who will be responsible for designing, developing and executing global development solutions in response to business needs, to equip employees through leaders for peak performance. You will utilize your consulting techniques to engage with Assurant’s HR Business Partner Community, Organizational Development & Change Management Centers of Excellence, business leaders, and your Global Learning & Development team colleagues. In this role, you will be an individual contributor. You will uncover performance/development gaps and determine and create the best solution – a new process, programs and resources or tools (some continuous improvement but mostly building from white space).

You will also provide input to the global development strategy and make recommendations on initiatives that will provide Assurant the most impact. Scope of work may include, but is not limited to, career/development paths; company culture; performance management; onboarding; employee development process/resources (70/20/10); Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion development; and coaching and mentoring.  Although the role will create some training solutions, it is not responsible for formal leadership development programs.

The ideal candidate is creative, collaborative and an expert in employee and leadership capability enhancement strategies, consultation, design of learning and development content and initiatives, and measurement.

What Will You Do


  • Consult with key stakeholders to analyze and understand development needs and objectives

  • Gain agreement on a development approach that supports and/or accelerates development objectives

  • Lead/Facilitate stakeholder meetings, produce periodic status reports and updated plans; Facilitate stakeholder communication, participation, conflict resolution and consensus building

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) with stakeholders, to measure project success

Content/Initiative Design

  • Design and develop new non-training solutions. Types of initiatives could include development planning processes/resources, performance management tools/resources, learning paths, competency models, mentoring programs, etc.

  • Design and develop new training solutions using a range of development modalities and including reinforcement activities and job aids to enable long-term sustainment. Training topics could range from Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) content to coaching to developing employees to conducting an effective performance review etc.

  • Update solutions and content regularly to incorporate relevant Assurant business topics

  • Partner with other L&D and HR partners to ensure development content meets desired needs, quality standards and timeline agreements

  • Manage the design/development efforts of external vendor/partners when necessary

  • Curate new resources and tools (for employees and managers) to reinforce and embed initiatives

Project Execution and Evaluation

  • Develop and manage detailed project plans to ensure that milestones are met, risks are raised appropriately; and projects are delivered on time

  • Plan and oversee project resources and budget

  • Create and manage communication plans to stakeholders, sponsors and with participants as needed

  • Maintain regular communication and clear direction to vendors (as needed) to ensure execution of agreed upon goals and deliverables

  • Partner with business and HR stakeholders to build, execute and report out on effectiveness and quality of interventions

  • Facilitate higher level leadership development programs as needed

What Will You Bring

  • 7 + years of hands on experience building and implementing development strategies and solutions with a focus on improving employee and leadership capability in a global company

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR or related discipline.

  • 5 + years’ experience managing projects and budget

  • 5 + years’ experience consulting with stakeholders at various levels of the enterprise

  • Experience working in a highly matrixed organization

  • Creative and innovative thinker with a desire and ability to ideate initiatives from white space and execute them flawlessly

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); exceptional interpersonal skills that build trust, collaboration and relationships; enterprise-wide thinking with the ability to influence at all levels

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver proactively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, dynamic and virtual environment

Desired experience, skills or knowledge

  • Masters or MBA a plus.
