Program Manager

This position supports Assurant’s Global Preneed line of business and sets direction for and project manages the most strategic programs across the enterprise. Responsible for building project and resource plans, managing the implementations of those plans, mitigating risks, and communicating updates to key stakeholders.  Leverages key best practices to optimize tools, technologies and processes and achieve higher levels of maturity. This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities:

Program Delivery

  • Provides a framework for benefits management, stakeholder management and program governance
  • Ensures that program plans and component projects are in alignment with program/strategic goals
  • Enables optimized or integrated management of cost, schedule, and effort
  • Works closely with Program Leadership Team to ensure that component projects are organized and executed in a consistent manner that meets established standards
  • Interacts with Project Sponsors, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and other leadership to provide support and guidance on the individual projects as well as to convey the important relationship of each project to the bigger picture
  • Effectively manages program risks, issues, and changes
  • Applies expert level understanding of the Program Management knowledge areas and key processes along with the Agile scrum framework

Communication and Organization

  • Ensures that a thorough understanding of stakeholder communication needs is integrated into the program planning process
  • Ensures effective communication across complex program teams and key stakeholders
  • Effectively establishes, communicates, and continually manages expectations of team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion
  • Provides regular updates on key milestones, deliverables and metrics to program stakeholders, steering committees, and executive management
  • Fosters an environment which encourages clear communication across multiple business units, sites, and functional areas
  • Coaches, mentors, motivates, and supervises team members and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work

Operational Excellence

  • Looks for opportunities within the department to make continuous improvements in key processes, techniques, and procedures, enhancing the department’s ability to meet customer needs
  • Stays abreast of knowledge of industry practices and trends

Financial Responsibility

  • Develops and maintains multi-year program and project budgets incorporating capex rules; forecasts change to the budget; tracks actual expenses to forecast; develops and maintains value realization goals; and develops and maintains vendor spend
  • Current program represents $30mm+ total spend
  • Finds creative means to manage program expenses
  • Works with Finance to assess program impacts to business financial results

Team Size

  • Team size varies. Current program is comprised of (6) teams of varying sizes with 50-75 active team members including both employees and vendor resources. Most team roles are sourced from a broader organization and do not report directly to the Program Manager
  • The Program Manager could have 1-3 direct reports initially with potential for more over time

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Prefer in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related business field)
  • Minimum of 10 years of project management or leadership experience in technology or business operations

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrates ability to interact and communicate with C-level executives
  • Demonstrates ability to interact with and manage functional experts including internal service delivery teams, client project teams, external service provider project teams, and 3rd party subcontractors in a global and/or virtual setting
  • Demonstrates proficiency with project risk management identification planning and remediation, and issue identification and management
  • Demonstrates proficiency managing projects with broad and complex stakeholder requirements
  • Demonstrates proficiency to drive the execution, monitoring, and control of project plans to successful on-time, on-budget, high-quality completion
  • Well experienced in managing multi-million-dollar initiatives with multiple implementation phases in a global and/or virtual setting
  • Experience with managing complex technology platforms and/or experience with large transformational initiatives with complex organizational change
  • Experience with Agile methodology
  • PMI’s Project Management Professional Certification (PMP)

Whether I'm working with people in Argentina or Chile or Miami, we all feel like we're part of the same company. And within my own group, we share ideas and analyze as a team - and drive for change, for improvements. We'll show each other how we do things and lend advice.

I also enjoy the focus on work-life balance - in the workplace, we're offered exercise classes or stretching classes with a trainer, for example. I've had the flexibility to take classes and training. And, we have the opportunity to give back to the community through events held throughout the year.
