Underwriting Assistant

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant!

The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for drafting and distributing client proposals for existing business using standard base rates with minor modifications which includes interpreting and evaluating risk submissions, developing rates and documenting underwriting assumptions.The Underwriting Assistant is also responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring new and existing products and clients across various Lines of Business. This role develops and delivers products that are priced to drive profitable growth and designed to attract sales.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Draft and distribute client proposals for existing business using standard base rates with minor modifications which includes interpreting and evaluating risk submissions, developing rates and documenting underwriting assumptions.

• Review and modify client forms

• Review and modify rate and rule manuals

• Prepare product implementation system specifications

• Monitor changes or trends from underwriting assumptions and identify corrective action

• Review claim/contract exceptions and client renewals

• Assist team members as needed

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Applied Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or other quantitative field

• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (must have strong Excel knowledge)

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with one or more programming languages and data analysis software (i.e. SAS, SQL, R, Python, Data Bricks, or similar products)

• Experience working in a collaborative environment with internal and external stakeholders
