What is a Lead Business Development Manager?

Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Business Development, the Lead Business Development Manager will serve as an account lead for large sized business opportunities while supporting existing and future customers across multiple sales channels. Other duties will include market research, developing business strategies, managing a variety of projects and identifying new business opportunities.

The Details

The Lead Business Development Manager will have the following primary duties

  • Expand business opportunities by identifying prospects, evaluating prospect’s position in industry, and researching and analyzing solutions
  • Achieve sales objectives by identifying and pursuing market and niche opportunities while developing new products and enhancing existing products
  • Coordinate and/or direct meetings to be scheduled with client decision makers
  • Lead internal Assurant meetings
  • Conduct ongoing research into target customer marketplace locations while analyzing competitive landscapes
  • Troubleshoot problems or issues through to completion, on behalf of assigned prospects
  • Lead day to day direction and management of new business opportunities
  • Develop and maintain weekly, monthly and quarterly account status updates and reporting
  • Oversee and direct the negotiation of new LOIs, MSAs, SOWs and other business agreements
  • Direct strategy for BD team at conferences and industry events
  • Create customer facing presentations, customer briefings as well as present during meetings
  • Assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level employees

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • 5 + years of sales, project management and account development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Superior organizational skills, including ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously
  • Strong ability to oversee multiple teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills, team-oriented working style
  • Ability to work independently and achieve results under time pressure
  • Travel Required: Up to 60%

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working for insurance or risk management companies with a global footprint is a plus.
  • 10 + years of business development experience within the following sectors (Retail, Logistics, Securities, Asset Management, Wireless Carriers)
  • Self-starter, self-disciplined and target focused but able to work in a team matrixed environment
  • Demonstrates drive, passion and flexibility
  • Basic research and strategy skills
  • Working knowledge of current business software, Excel, word processing, Outlook and PowerPoint
