Assurant is hiring an Accounting Manager for our Cell Phone Repair (CPR) Business Unit. The Accounting Manager for the CPR business unit will lead the day-to-day accounting for the CPR business unit and will ensure that the financial statements, footnotes and all supporting schedules related to the CPR Business Unit are fairly stated in all material aspects in accordance with U.S. GAAP. CPR licenses and franchises with independent contractors in the United States and internationally.
This individual will work remotely temporarily due to COVID-19.
Perform and manage day-to-day general accounting. Ensure complete, accurate and timely accounting deliverables in accordance with procedures, accounting and policy guidance, and applicable regulatory agencies.
Perform monthly and quarterly financial reporting tasks, including recording of journal entries, analytical reviews, account reconciliations, as well as potential inquiry and follow up with franchisees over accounting issues and procedures.
Read and interpret franchise agreements, to be able to provide accounting guidance.
Prepare complete set of financials statements and footnotes for the annual Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDD).
Assist with annual FDD audit and reporting requirements.
Manage the accounting of corporate owned franchise stores.
Assist in the elimination of cross-selling business and intercompany transactions between the franchise entity and other Assurant entities.
Assist and provide guidance to the system integration team, with regards to specific franchise accounting requirements.
Understand and promote an environment of effective controls, as well as company and regulatory requirements (i.e., SOX, MAR, record retention, audit, etc.).
Build relationships throughout the organization and continually strive to identify ways in which areas of responsibility can assist the business and corporate segments to achieve their strategic goals.
Lead and/or support strategic and ad-hoc projects as appropriate.
Collaborate with contributors and coworkers to identify, propose and implement approved issue resolution alternatives; lead implementation of portions of agreed upon solutions, including training other staff or process participants.
Assist management to help build the Global Lifestyle brand with leadership by example. Take on new assignments and apply experience to proposed practice and procedure. Identify and communicate areas of inconsistency, offer alternative solutions for improvement in quality and process.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
5+ years of experience in progressive general accounting
3 – 5 years supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge and Skills
Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
Knowledge and experience with franchise accounting, including awareness of franchise systems, accounting practices and regulatory requirements.
Strong organizational abilities to communicate effectively with various levels of management and staff personnel including high level written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and perform in a fast-paced environment.
Good judgment, collaboration and teamwork, strategic agility, decision-making, building and leading teams.
Problem analysis and resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Experience in a larger complex corporate environment
Mobile industry experience a plus
Insurance industry experience a plus
Knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft BI a plus
Ability to work extended hours
