Business Operations MIS Manager

The Business Operations MIS Manager is responsible for ensuring Financial Services Operations (“FSO”) team information system needs are being met. This includes the analysis and evaluation of existing or proposed systems and the development of requirements and programming needs for implementing and maintaining tables and databases to meet all regulatory and business requirements. This position also ensures the facilitation of testing, troubleshooting and installation of new or revised programs and procedures with Information Technology staff and user departments.
Primary Responsibilities include:
  • In consultation with superior and subordinate supervisory personnel as appropriate, develops short- and long- term goals and plans for area(s) of responsibility.
  • Formulates policy for area(s) of responsibility and secures appropriate approvals. Develops and administers procedures necessary to implement approved policy and provides the overall direction necessary to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective area services.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, documentation, and monitoring of an ongoing quality assurance program for area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and standards.
  • Performs system support, formulates/defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding. Prepares detailed specifications/requirements from which programs will be written or modified.
  • Tests, debugs, documents and completes the post-production review of the installation of new or modified programs. This is coordinated with the Information Technology staff and the user departments.
  • Performs problem resolution by working closely with the Information Technology staff by identifying system capabilities and constraints. Proposes alternate solutions when necessary.
  • Participates on committees and in programs for safety, fire prevention, disaster recovery and so forth. Ensures the development of specific plans for inclusion in these programs.
  • Serves as liaison with other organizational components; establishes and maintains the working rapport necessary to develop cooperation and effectively integrate area services into the company’s overall business fulfillment system.
  • Remains abreast of developments in the technology and/or insurance fields by pursuing a program of self-development, participating in professional organizations, interacting with peers, reviewing pertinent literature, and so forth. Incorporates advancements when practicable and cost effective.
  • Works with IT, Operations, Business team and clients to develop and initiate all electronic transmissions and oversees ongoing transmission process to ensure all data communication is working as it should.
  • Responsible for setting priorities of workload in conjunction with IT, Business unit and Operations. Manage resources accordingly.
Responsibility for work of others:
  • Hires, develops, evaluates, and (when necessary) disciplines and discharges subordinate personnel or makes authoritative recommendations in such matters.
  • Develops function-specific orientation and training programs for area personnel. Establishes standards for effective job performance and evaluates subordinates according to such standards.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective organization for area(s) of responsibility, including: a) efficient work flow patterns; b) established performance standards; c) effective delineation of duties and responsibilities; d) suitable staffing levels; e) appropriate supervision; and f) systems for timely communication of pertinent information.
  • Receives and investigates all complaints concerning his or her area(s) of responsibility and its personnel; determines veracity of such and (as necessary) takes corrective or disciplinary action and/or prepares reply.
  • Directs the preparation of records as well as recurring and special reports and analyses for area(s) of responsibility ensuring that they are complete, accurate and prepared on time. Reviews and interprets these in order to ascertain the extent to which goals are being attained. Takes corrective action as necessary.
Required Experience:
  • Five plus years of leadership experience or project leadership preferably with expertise in project management or business administration specializing with system technology.

  • Plan and Organize: The manager needs to manage the work activities to reach the desired business objectives on time, within budget and according to the specifications.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Business) or equivalent work experience
Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Work is performed in an office environment and in close proximity to other workers.
  • Physical demands are light and consist of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • They must be able to see and hear in the normal range with or without correction, and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood.
  • Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and be willing to work an irregular schedule, when needed, which may include weekends or evenings.
Travel:
  • Although limited, the ability to travel as needed, roughly 5% of day to day responsibility
