Lead Accountant

Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Accountant!

This job performs a variety of accounts payable and procure to pay analytical and accounting tasks, utilizing experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals while working independently as well as in a team environment. In this role, they will be responsible for providing analytics by pulling multiple sources of data related to accounts payable, purchasing, invoicing and suppliers.  In addition, they will be supporting ongoing management of accounts payable and procure to pay processes and policy. They will also be the administrator of any tools critical to the function.

This position will also help cultivate a continuous improvement culture and promote ongoing learning and engagement in a fast paced shared services environment.

Responsibilities:

• Executes accounting assignments that are varied and possibly complex

• Support accounting system, processes and month-end/qtr-end close activities

• Assist in the planning and implementations of Accounting work and activities

• Perform audits of accounts payable, purchasing and invoicing documents in accordance with defined compliance metrics, report results and escalate issues.

• Support compliance and on-going improvements with internal controls including SOX

• Be involved in daily / weekly meetings with stakeholder teams in order to be aware of the day-to-day operational issues and escalations and to understand major process gaps in order to drive process changes and improvements

• Develop deep understanding of the AP and Procurement tools as well as interdependent systems and how the procure to pay data interfaces in each system

• Become familiar with key accounting elements necessary to complete procure to pay transactions and support related analysis as needed

• Work with the vendor management team to validate the integrity of supplier data in the procurement tool

• Prepare reports and ad-hoc analytical summaries utilizing clean, logical formatting appropriate for the intended audience, to include but not limited to executive leaders

• Utilize charts, dashboards, pivot tables and other visual aids to effectively communicate and synthesize complex data

• Support ad-hoc accounts payable and procurement analytic requests.

• Assists in monitoring key performance indicators and on-shore controls and governance

• Assist AFS  management to help build AFS  Brand

• Assist to ensure team meets all deadlines and deliverables in a timely and accurate manner

• Identify opportunities and support continuous learning and a continuous improvement culture

• Support continuous improvement, innovation and transformation through identification, development and implementation of process improvements

• Work with stakeholders, including internal customers, suppliers and procurement outsourcing partner, to perform root cause analysis, identify solutions and drive issues to closure.

Responsibility for the work of others:

• Serves as a subject matter expert for accounts payable and procure to pay

• Review and analyze financial information prepared by others

• Provide guidance to EXL (off-shore) team members

Basic Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

• BA or BS in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience

• Minimum 5 years of progressive Accounting Experience

• 5 years of progressive financial analysis, reconciliation and research experience required

• Experience with complex programs and databases such as SQL, MS Access, Tableau, etc.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

• Problem solving and critical thinking skills in a team environment

• Strong analytical and organizational skills

• Detailed oriented with the ability to track multiple action items, resources and deliverables

• Demonstrated ability to function in a team environment and highly matrixed environment

• Expert level experience in usage of various reporting tools, Microsoft Excel, and databases including vLookups, macros, and pivot tables

• Proficient in Internet Explorer Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft PowerPoint; Microsoft Visio; and Microsoft Word.

• Experience in data mining, database management and reporting.

• CPA or pursuing
