Product Development Manager (Auto) - Remote

Assurant is a market leader in the Shared/Gig Economy and Antique Auto space. The Product Development Manager will lead all product development efforts for our Personal and Commercial Auto lines of business. The manager will support the Innovation Team through implementing system enhancements that promote efficiencies along with evaluating new products and services within the product pipeline. 

The Product Development Manager Position requires high energy, a positive attitude and a team player mentality in all aspects. Strong communication skills, project management, research, organizational and analytical problem-solving skills are essential.  A background in commercial auto with underwriting capabilities is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all product development efforts associated with our Personal and Commercial Auto businesses, working with internal groups including actuarial, underwriting, legal and compliance, state filings, and operations to ensure products are designed to meet market needs while ensuring integrity and profitability of the product.
  • Review renewals for our B2B partners including detailed experience analysis, performance, and opportunities to better underwrite the program and increase profitability.
  • Evaluate risks and make decisions regarding insurability including physical and moral hazards involved, specific filings, statutes and laws. Recommend risk improvements if warranted.
  • Select proper policy or policies to be utilized and determine appropriate pricing and coverage forms to be used.
  • Create and maintain underwriting guidelines and eligibility requirements for all products.
  • Manage telematics and other data used to evaluate program performance, recommending changes when needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technical aspects of commercial insurance underwriting and applicable state and local statutes and laws.
  • Communicate with internal and external parties including reinsurance partners, co-workers and brokers.

  • Develops and Implements Risk Management, Pricing, Filing, and Product strategies using fact-based decisions based upon a knowledge of the market, which includes regulatory and legal environment and claims handling.
  • Analyze the New Product opportunities and provide a detailed report on the potential of the pipeline including, market size, key trends, identifying customer targets, competitive forces, and financial forecasts.
  • Maintain and update database of primary and secondary competitors as well as research potential new product opportunities from competitive portfolios.
  • Support the ideation process by working with the team on market research and analysis, product idea brainstorm sessions, industry research, and working to create an innovative culture across the organization.

Required skills/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, industry designations a plus.
  • 5 years personal and/or commercial auto experience; product development, actuarial, state filings, or underwriting related experience.
  • CPCU designation preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and articulate product contracts, forms and document workflow processes.
  • Strong analytical skills possesses innovative and creative thinking.
  • Strong experience with data modeling with Microsoft Excel or other analytical tools.
  • Goal oriented and personally accountable; resourceful and self-directed to meet deadlines.
  • Requires the ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding ability to quickly provide sound decisions and perform tasks with less than complete information. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-functional teams within the organization.
  • Ability to conduct industry research and evaluation as well as strategic analysis and reporting of test results and key trends.
  • Support the development of business cases for new Products and Services including financial projections, marketing forecasts, and operational delivery.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing timelines.
  • Remote opportunity with the ability to travel to Miami quarterly.
