Assurant's Month of Veteran Reflection

This Memorial Day, Assurant joins voices across the United States to remember, honor, and show appreciation for those who’ve paid ultimate service and sacrifice for their country.

We’d like to thank Assurant People Partner, Air Force veteran, and member of the Veterans@Assurant Leadership team, Eric Crowley, for passionately highlighting many of the observances that transpired this month, while encouraging fellow veterans to acknowledge these important moments across the month of May.

While we pause to honor those service people who’ve passed during duty this Memorial Day, our Veterans@Assurant Employee Resource Group (ERG) and colleagues have reflected on numerous occasions throughout May in recognition of our community of veterans. These observances have included:

• Public Service Recognition Day (May 7th)
  “Less than one-half of one percent of our population serves in the military, and only 14.5% of the workforce serves in the public sector. While relatively small in number, they are huge in impact…”

• National Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 12th)
  “…Military Spouse Appreciation Day is a day to feel appreciated and celebrated. It's a reminder that our service and sacrifices do not go unnoticed or unappreciated. It's a day to be honored for our resilience and commitment to our families, our service members, and our country….” Read more.
• Armed Forces Day (May 20th)
  “The common thread: a simple but honorable commitment to step into the breach when asked so that we can all enjoy the freedoms we’re so used to and I suspect all too often, take for granted…”

• Mental Health Awareness Month
  “…Assurant is highlighting the importance of mental health and emotional wellbeing by raising awareness, normalizing the importance of getting the help you need, and highlighting all the resources available to our employees. Seeking treatment and support for your mental health should be no different than for your physical health. This week, make it a point to check in with your family, friends, and colleagues to see how they’re doing. As we wrap up this month of recognition with Memorial Day, we reflect on, remember, and appreciate all the veterans and their families who have sacrificed their lives for the freedoms we enjoy. Thank you for all of those who have given their all and to those who supported them.

The Veterans@Assurant ERG was launched on July 4th, 2022 and currently has 160 members. This group's goal is to foster a sense of belonging, engagement, and empowerment for Assurant veterans, military families, and allies. They are working to cultivate a strong community that embraces veterans in our workplace, drives outward engagement with veteran programs, and enriches The Assurant Way. We are thankful to have such a wonderful group of people with a passion for veterans inside and outside of Assurant!
