As I reflect on Mental Health Awareness this month, and the script of my story in that, I also remember, with gratitude, my fallen veteran brothers, and sisters this Memorial Day who died in service of others.
As an Air Force veteran and having personally served during times of war and in hostile territory across the world, I brought home the impacts of significant events and traumatic experiences on my life.
Thankful for a community of people to support me as I worked through these difficulties, I have grown even more appreciative for those second chances where so many did not have them.
Unfortunately, I have family, friends, and peers who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Each Memorial Day, I honor the memory of them by remembering those close to me and all the service members who are no longer with us.
Let’s pause this Military Appreciation Month to reflect and remember the courage of the few and show appreciation for those who served, supporters of our veterans, and those still serving.
