LGBTQ+ Inclusivity and Our Pride@Assurant ERG: Rodrigo's Story
Rodrigo Cokting, Country Marketing Manager, Canada and Secretary for our Pride@Assurant ERG, shares about finding acceptance and belonging in his personal and professional life.
In commemoration of the memory and philanthropy of Kunal Malhotra, a former Assurant senior leader who passed in 2023, the Assurant Foundation launched the Assurant Cares Scholarship Program this year. This program aims to encourage and prepare diverse talent and innovative leaders for the future by supporting the educational aspirations of the next generation.
Each year, the program will award $5,000 scholarships to five eligible dependents of Assurant employees. The one-time awards will be for qualified education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction, as well as room and board. The scholarships will support students planning to enroll or enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
We are proud to share that, after recieving over 60 applications, we have awarded scholarships to five deserving students who stood out for their academic achievements, demonstrated leadership and participation in educational and community activities:
Cody Germain, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Public Policy, class of 2028
Damaris Gaines, Virginia State University, Criminal Justice, class of 2025
Emily Llewellyn, Francis Marion University, Biology, class of 2025
Grace Park, The University of Texas at Austin, Biology, class of 2028
Phoebe Ortiz, Wittenberg University, P-5 Education and Intervention Specialist, class of 2027
Congratulations to all of our Assurant Cares Scholarship Program recipients! We are honored to be part of your educational journey and cannot wait to see where you go next!
